As the Mandated Iwi Organisation of Rongowhakaata for the purposes of the Maori Fisheries Act 2004 and to act as the Iwi Aquaculture Organisation for the purpose of the Maori Commercial Claims Settlement Act 2004, the Trust established the Rongowhakaata Iwi Asset Holding Company in June 2006 to:

• Receive and hold, on behalf of Rongowhakaata, settlement assets (fishing quota and shares) and grants made to Rongowhakaata by Te Ohu Kaimoana Trustee Limited.
• Receive distributions from Te Putea Whakatupu Trustee Limited and Te Wai Maori Trustee Limited.
• To utilise annual catch entitlement from Rongowhakaata Settlement quota.
